Torrance Beach Wedding
in Los Angeles | Elisa + Jonathan

A Heartfelt Beach Wedding in Los Angeles

As soon as you step onto Torrance Beach, you can see why so many couples are drawn to this stretch of coastline.

The sand is soft and expansive. The cliffs of the Palos Verdes Peninsula rise quietly in the distance. The ocean feels steady and grounding. It’s beautiful in an unassuming way — the kind of place that looks exactly how a wedding day should feel.

Tucked into the South Bay region of Los Angeles, between Redondo Beach and Malaga Cove, Torrance Beach offers a more relaxed alternative to some of Southern California’s busier beaches. It’s scenic, accessible, and quietly stunning — especially for couples planning a heartfelt beach wedding.

Photographing Elisa and Jonathan’s wedding at Torrance Beach, I was immediately taken by how simple and versatile the setting is. Open shoreline, textured cliffs, soft dunes, and wide horizons — each part of the beach offering a slightly different visual rhythm.

Their day was a reminder of how much Torrance Beach can shift depending on the couple’s energy.

Why Couples Love Torrance Beach

Torrance Beach blends natural beauty with a sense of ease that makes it especially appealing for couples who want their day to feel personal and unforced.

You get the open coastline, sweeping ocean views, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula cliffs as your backdrop — without heavy crowds or complicated logistics.

It’s well-suited for connection-focused beach weddings, micro-weddings, elopements and couples who value experience over production

October is an especially lovely time for a Torrance Beach wedding. The weather tends to be comfortable, and the coastal light is soft and flattering — not too warm, not too cool.

A Walk Through the Wedding Day

One of the things I love most about photographing Torrance Beach weddings is how much variety you get within a relatively small stretch of coastline. Everything flows naturally without needing to travel far.

Here’s how Elisa and Jonathan’s wedding day unfolded.

Getting Ready

Elisa and Jonathan got ready separately at nearby accommodations, keeping the morning relaxed and unrushed.

Soft window light, quiet moments with loved ones, and simple details set the tone. For couples planning a 4 PM ceremony, I recommend beginning photography coverage at least two hours beforehand so there’s space to slow down and be present.

Getting ready photos capture anticipation, emotion, and the quiet beginnings of the story.

First Look (Optional)

Elisa and Jonathan chose to see each other for the first time during the ceremony, but Torrance Beach offers several quieter pockets along the shoreline and near the cliffs that work beautifully for couples who prefer a first look.

These tucked-away areas allow space for connection and portraits before guests arrive, while still staying close to the ceremony site.

Ceremony

Their ceremony took place directly on the sand with the Palos Verdes Peninsula cliffs in the distance.

The setup was simple: an arch, folding chairs, water for guests, and subtle florals. Nothing overdone. Nothing competing with the environment.

Barefoot and grounded, Elisa and Jonathan exchanged vows with the sound of waves behind them.

Family Photos & sunset Couple Portraits

Immediately after the ceremony, we stayed nearby for family and friend photos while the light was still soft.

As golden hour approached, Elisa and Jonathan stepped away for portraits along the shoreline and with the picturesque cliffs in the distance. The light turned warm, the beach grew quieter, and everything slowed down.

Unforced. Easy. Honest.

Golden hour at Torrance Beach is subtle and cinematic.

Soft light. Warm tones. Open sky.

reception

After portraits, the celebration continued at Riviera Mexican Cantina in Redondo Beach, a nod to Elisa's Mexican American heritage.

They hosted cocktail hour around 5 PM, followed by a grand entrance at 6 PM. The private event space, ocean views, and buffet-style taco dinner made for a relaxed and joyful evening.

The night unfolded with toasts, dinner, cake cutting, and dancing until 10 PM.

Pro Tips for Getting Married at Torrance Beach

Choose a 4 PM ceremony. This timing offers the best balance of comfortable light, relaxed pacing, and space for family photos and golden hour portraits.

Plan for coastal conditions. Even on mild days, ocean breezes can roll in. Light layers and breathable fabrics will keep everyone comfortable.

Apply for permits early. Torrance Beach requires a Special Event Use Permit through Los Angeles County Beaches & Harbors, and availability can vary.

Stay nearby. Lodging in Redondo Beach or the surrounding South Bay keeps getting ready, transportation, and timelines simple.

Wear comfortable footwear. Barefoot, flats, sandals, or low heels tend to work best on sand.

Keep the design simple. The shoreline, cliffs, and open horizon do most of the visual work—subtle florals and minimal décor go a long way.

Build in getting ready coverage. Starting photography about two hours before the ceremony allows your story to feel complete and unrushed.

Make time for sunset portraits. Golden hour at Torrance Beach is soft, warm, and cinematic—and absolutely worth prioritizing.

If you’re planning a heartfelt beach wedding in Los Angeles and searching for a Torrance Beach wedding photographer who documents your day with a vibrant, emotive, and honest approach, I’d love to connect.
